What is AdSense for content?
Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant, unobtrusive Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money. Because the ads are related to what your users are looking for on your site, you'll finally have a way to both monetize and enhance your content pages.
The program is free, and combines pay-per-click and pay-per-impression advertising - meaning you get paid for valid clicks on the ads on your site as well as impressions. So go ahead and try this program. If you comply with our program policies, just complete our online application.
We'll review your application and follow up with an email within 2-3 days. If you are accepted into the program, you can log in to your new account and get the HTML code to insert into your webpages.
How can I set up the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up feature?
We're sorry to inform you that the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up feature is no longer available. The 'Advertise on this site' link no longer appears on any of our ad units. If you included direct links to this feature on your site, please consider replacing those links with text links for AdWords referrals. AdWords referrals can help you earn as much as $45 for each new advertiser that signs up via your site. Any existing direct links you've pointed to the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up landing page now redirect to the main AdWords sign-up page where prospective advertisers can buy media and compete in the auction, driving up demand for publishers' content.
As the AdSense product evolves, we occasionally re-evaluate aspects of the product to make sure they're performing well for our publishers and meeting our goals. We found that OASU links were under-performing, and so we've made the decision to focus our efforts on features that will drive the best results for publishers.
How does Google target ads to my website?
Once you've added the Google ad code to the webpages on which you want to display Google ads, we take care of the rest by automatically delivering relevant Google ads to those content pages. Google ads are targeted in two ways:
* Contextual targeting
Our technology uses such factors as keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web, in order to determine what a webpage is about and precisely match Google ads to each page.
* Placement targeting
With placement targeting, advertisers choose specific ad placements, or subsections of publisher websites, on which to run their ads. Ads that are placement-targeted may not be precisely relevant to the content of a page, but are hand-picked by advertisers who've determined a match between what your users are interested in and what they have to offer .
Our technology can also determine the primary language of a page. If your content is in a language supported by our program, AdSense will target ads in the appropriate language to your content. In addition, Google ads are geotargeted to your visitor's location.
Can I filter the ads that are displayed on my site?
Yes. To create and manage a filter list of websites whose ads you'd like to restrict from showing on your site or AdSense for search results pages, simply log in to your account at https://www.google.com/adsense and click the Competitive Ad Filter link below the AdSense Setup tab. You can create separate filter lists for your content pages and for your AdSense for search results pages. Ads for the websites that you add to your competitive ad filter list typically will not run on your pages, but remember that filtering sites may decrease the number of ads that can appear on your pages as well as decrease your potential earnings.
For more details on using your competitive ad filter, please read the Filtering Ads section of this FAQ.
We also combine an editorial team and filtering technology to maximize the quality of the Google ads on Google and publisher sites:
* Review: Across the Google network, ads are reviewed using a combination of human and automated processes before they are shown on publishers' sites. The review process takes into account a variety of factors, including the quality of the ad and whether the ad is suitable for all audiences.
* Sensitive content filters: At times, certain ads may not be appropriate to run on all pages. For example, Google automatically filters out ads that would be inappropriate on a news page about a catastrophic event.
Please note that Google does not commit that all ads for the websites that you add to your competitive ad filter list or ads containing objectionable content will be prevented from display on your site.
How do I add the AdSense code to my site?
Once you've generated your ad code by visiting the AdSense Setup tab and following the steps to choose an ad type, format, and colors, you'll need to add the code to your webpages. In the final step of the setup, you'll see your code in the Your AdSense Code box. This is the code that you will cut-and-paste directly into your webpages.
Because every HTML editor is different, and because only you know how you like to build your webpages, we can't give exact instructions on copying the ad code into your pages. We can, however, give you a few tips:
Google ads should appear on your pages immediately. Initially, the ads that you see may be Public Service Ads (known as PSAs) and won't be targeted to your page. We have to crawl your page's content before we know what kinds of ads to send your way - this can take up to a few hours, but usually occurs within minutes. Once our crawler has visited your page, you should see ads that are highly targeted to your content.
You might also find helpful HTML hints in the AdSense Help Forum. AdSense publishers share their knowledge and experiences in this forum, where you can feel free to post your own questions and search or browse for answers about ad implementation.

- Make sure to paste the ad code into your source without making any changes to the code. This is important, as changing the code in any way can cause errors on your page (and is against the AdSense program policies)
- Copy the ad code between the body tags of your HTML
- If you're using a WYSIWYG editor (such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver) it's a good idea to paste the code into the Code or Source view. Pasting it into the layout view will often result in HTML tags being added to your code, and will result in errors
- If your page uses Frames, make sure that the code is pasted into the frame that contains your page's main content. We use this content to target ads
